This project had a true collaborative spirit from the start as our clients are both visual and creative – a theatrical lighting designer and a costume designer / artist. Some of their unique criteria for this rooftop environment included acoustical barriers from nearby commercial warehouse fans and an enclosure that allowed their cats’ usage and safety. The archetypal New York water tanks offered the generative force for the unraveling wood boards. The spacing between boards varies depending upon adjacencies to achieve privacy, sound attenuation, light filtration and cat protection. The new stair and bulkhead brings light and sectional intrigue to our clients’ loft below.
