Dun Laoghaire Rathdown - Central Library & Cultural Center–Ireland– 2007– 83,000 SF
LGA Team: Lynn Gaffney, Faela Guiden, Matthew Radune, Younglan Tsai
Competition

The two elements – library and cultural centre - define themselves as individuals in how they address the site, in how they interact with the user and in the material in which they are wrapped. The library is an icon at the city scale – building as signage. Its mass hovers above the movement below – pedestrian, vehicular, rail. The exhibitionist display of the main stacks and reading areas invites people across from the harbor. The screen facing Bowling Green flaunts knowledge through film during free screenings.

We passively use the natural weather conditions of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown.Rain water is collected for grey water use within the building and irrigation when needed at Bowling Green. The breezes off the harbor will help with natural ventilation of most of the building.
