The competition entry stressed the multipurpose aspect of the modern library – an iconic entrance to the university, a gathering space for organized and casual groups, a quiet study zone, a celebration of local culture and a tectonic savvy hub. We worked through a simple layering of program with dramatic vertical access paths. The transition between interior and exterior zones was both exaggerated and stripped away as required by each use. This study was essential for the covered plaza and the louver wrapping to emerge as major elements of the design.
