| The challenges
on this project stem from requirements of low visibility and traditional
aesthetic of an Adirondack home. The design has evolved from a butterfly
roofed two distinct bar scheme to a more subtle house with an oversized
roof somewhat lifted off the two distinct bar system. It is rustic
in feel and built into the hill. The interior spaces fulfill our clients’ desire
for an open, streamlined living space.
The environmental impact is kept to a minimum. The house stretches
in the North / South direction and allows southern light to filter
through open trellises and kal-wall clearstories along the roof.
The heating is radiant within the exposed slab-on-grade. Natural
ventilation has been worked through for a fresh air cross breeze
off the meadow. Materials are mainly sustainable such as standing
seam metal roofing and refurbished wood siding.
